Michael Jolly

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Jolly, aged 83. Mike’s connection with the club began in the 1990s, when his neighbour Don Hubert lured him away from Edmonton cricket club. He devoted many years scoring for various cricket teams, and for over a decade worked for the club, cleaning our clubhouse. More than anything, Mike was a character. A devoted cricket-watcher, a lover of hobgoblin (especially when served in a jug), the familiar figure at the end of the bar, pint in hand, walking stick by his side, crossword in tow. In more recent years, Mike found joy in summer afternoons watching cricket on the front pitch, or bringing his wit to the quiz on a Monday evening. He will be profoundly missed—not just by the cricket section, but by every member of the club who ever shared a laugh, a pint, a conversation, or simply his company. Rest in peace, Mike.
