John Noah (1940 - 2025)

23rd October 2025

The Club is sad to announce the passing of John Noah, a former a former cricketer and footballer at Winchmore Hill.

A message from Terry Braithwaite, who played with him for many years.

It is with great sadness I am informing you all of the sudden passing of John Noah on Thursday October 2nd at the age of 85.

He was one of that rare breed who played regularly for the 1st XI at both football and cricket. I did not play football with John [so much younger than JN] however it was my pleasure to play many seasons of cricket with him, not only for Winchmore Hill but for the Club's Touring team where we shared the delights of the week long Devon Tour for 30 or more years. Whilst he will no doubt remembered at Winchmore Hill as the best left arm spinner in the Club's history, I think my main memory will be of the man who toured with us in Devon. Not only did we have the benefit of his bowling we had the pleasure of his character, full of humour, full of mischief and on many occasions full of red wine! I'd like to think he now enjoying a glass or 3 with his old team mates Jack Adamson, Lionel Rogers, Barry Davies, Denis Metson and John Tait...cheers and RIP John Noah

Funeral details:

Friday 31st October -11:30 @ Great Glen Crematorium LE8 9DJ and after at The Shoulder of Mutton, Great Bowden LE16 7EU for drinks and buffet.
